Washingon State Active Transportation Plan Highlights Need for Safer Roads
The Active Transportation Plan 2020 and Beyond - Part 1 (PDF 12.4MB) released in May 2021 serves as a compass for the future of walking and biking on or across state highways in Washington.
The plan highlights the need for better bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure in the state. Crashes
involving people who walk and bike represented 21 percent of all fatal
and serious injury traffic crashes in 2019, even though walking and
biking for transportation only represents about 12 percent of all trips.
